Just Eat commission · UK · checked September 2026
Just Eat charges UK restaurants 14% commission + VAT on each order if you deliver with your own drivers, and 30% commission + VAT if Just Eat delivers. With 20% VAT added, that's really 16.8% or 36% of the order. Just Eat's own example: on a £20 order, it takes £3.36 (own drivers) or £7.20 (Just Eat delivers).

The rates
Commission is a percentage of the order, and who delivers it sets the rate. Here is what Just Eat publishes for restaurants in the UK.
| Plan | Just Eat delivers | You deliver |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 30% | 14% |
Card processing
Just Eat's sign-up page doesn't mention a card fee. Check your agreement.
VAT on the commission
Yes. Just Eat's own worked example adds 20% VAT to its commission: a £20 order at 14% costs £2.80 plus 56p VAT. A VAT-registered restaurant can usually reclaim it.
Joining fee
Just Eat's sign-up page contradicts itself: its FAQ says joining is free, while the step after sign-up says £295 plus VAT, taken from your takings. Check your agreement.
Equipment
An Orderpad tablet and printer are listed in what you get, with no fee stated.
On one order
So what percentage does Just Eat take? 14% or 30%, plus VAT, depending on who delivers. No drivers? Just Eat says it can probably deliver for you, if your area is covered by its couriers.
| Order type | Commission | With 20% VAT | On a £20 order |
|---|---|---|---|
| You deliver (own drivers) | 14% + VAT | 16.8% | £2.80 + 56p VAT = £3.36 |
| Just Eat delivers (its couriers) | 30% + VAT | 36% | £6.00 + £1.20 VAT = £7.20 |

VAT and payouts
Just Eat adds 20% VAT to its commission. If you're VAT-registered (taxable turnover over £90,000), you can usually reclaim it as input tax, so your real cost is 14% or 30%. If you're not, you can't, and your real cost is 16.8% or 36%.
Commission is a percentage of the order value, and UK menu prices include VAT. If you sell hot food and you're VAT-registered, £4 of a £24 order belongs to HMRC: Just Eat's 30% of £24 is £7.20, which is 36% of the £20 you keep. Our guide to VAT on takeaway food explains the hot and cold food rules.
Worked example
A takeaway doing 300 Just Eat orders a month at £25 each: £7,500 a month.
| Just Eat delivers (30%) | Own drivers (14%) | Your own ordering page | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commission per order | £7.50 | £3.50 | £0 |
| VAT on commission | £1.50 | £0.70 | – |
| Card fee | None listed by Just Eat | None listed by Just Eat | £0.58 (Stripe 1.5% + 20p) |
| You receive per order | £16.00 | £20.80 | £24.43 |
| Taken per month | £2,700 | £1,260 | £172.50 |
| Taken per year | £32,400 | £15,120 | £2,070 |
If you're VAT-registered and reclaim the VAT, Just Eat delivering costs £2,250 a month, not £2,700. On the 14% tier, your own driver costs come on top, and year one may add the £295 + VAT joining fee. Your own page has a plan cost: US$17 a month on Menuthere Lite (billed in US dollars), or nothing on Free for up to 50 orders a month. Move 90 orders a month direct and you keep about £3.63 an order (£326 a month) from own-driver orders with the same drivers, or £8.43 an order (£758 a month) from Just Eat-delivered orders that become collection.

One £25 order on Just Eat
Just Eat keeps 30.0% of every order — £2,250 a month, or £27,000 a year at your volume.
The same order on your own ordering page
Moving 90 orders a month (30%) to your own link keeps £607.50 a month in your business — £7,290 a year.
Figures are estimates from the numbers you enter. Just Eat agreements differ by plan, location and volume, and platforms change their fees, so your Just Eat payout statement is the source of truth. The direct column assumes every order is paid by card at about 3%, before your ordering plan's fee; cash and pay-at-counter orders cost nothing. Worth knowing
Prosus completed its takeover of Just Eat Takeaway.com in October 2025. The announcement said nothing about restaurant terms.
A Just Eat alternative for your regulars
A delivery app is a good way to be found and an expensive way to serve people who already know you. Give your regulars your own ordering link, and the commission on their orders stays in your business.
What you get with Menuthere
0% commission on every plan. Start on the free plan with 50 orders a month; Lite is $17 a month for unlimited orders and your own domain. Keep Just Eat running alongside it.
Keep more
Own drivers cost money, but on a £25 order the gap between 36% and 16.8% (with VAT) is £4.80. That often covers a local drop.
Give them a reason to order direct, such as a loyalty stamp or a direct-only dish. Check your agreement for any rules on marketing inside Just Eat orders first.
Your own online ordering system for collection, delivery and dine-in, at 0% commission. Card payments go to your own Stripe account (Lite and up).
Customers send "Hi", tap Order Now and get automatic updates (Pro; Meta bills messages separately). See WhatsApp ordering.
Set delivery zones (basic on Free, pricing by zone on Lite) and track riders live with the riders app (Pro). Fund offers carefully: a 20% discount plus 30% commission plus VAT can wipe out a meal's margin.
